M.E. Awareness Weeks

International M.E. Awareness Day, on 12 May, is probably the high point of the M.E. calendar. This date was chosen because Florence Nightingale, the lady of the lamp, who was born that day might - just might - have had the illness herself.

M.E. Awareness week each year is usually chosen from the Monday to the Sunday either side of this red-letter day midpoint though, there are individual variations of observation.

Sometimes projects overrun the week specified and, every year, the feedback from newspaper articles and correspondence runs on for several months, even into the preparations for the next year’s ME Awareness week.

We shall devote a separate section to the current ME Awareness Week and archive highlights of previous years.

ME organisations are invited to publicise their chosen projects for the current year to be seen here by our members and by the invited media including health editors and journalists from local and national newspapers.

Anyone may tell us of any themed projects, plans or personal initiatives they have to commemorate the week, such as conferences, gatherings or fundraising events and we shall be pleased to post them here.

We also welcome stories and opinions about previous ME Awareness Weeks to be published on each year’s particular page.
